Joan L. Heath became the Associate Vice President, University Library at Texas State University in September 2010 having served in various positions at the Albert B. Alkek Library including University Librarian and Head Acquisitions Librarian. Ms. Heath worked previously at the Sterling B. Evans Library at Texas A&M University. She earned a BA in Journalism and a MLS (Masters in Library Science) from the University of Michigan.
Ms. Heath has held numerous positions in local, state and national library associations including the San Marcos Public Library Board, the TexShare Advisory Board, the OCLC Global Council and the Texas Library Association Board.
As the Associate Vice President, University Library Ms. Heath is responsible for the administration of the University Library including The Wittliff Collections and a satellite library at the Texas State Round Rock Campus. In FY12 the library was managed by a staff of 104 with library expenditures exceeding 12 million.
The Alkek Library is the most important information resource of the Texas State community and serves a wider public as well. The library helps its patrons succeed by providing high quality library services and information in a variety of formats to support the university’s teaching, research and service programs by teaching users to be knowledgeable and discerning information consumers.
