Government Documents

The Alkek Library Government Documents Collection is a selective depository library including a variety of Federal and State of Texas documents on many topics and produced in various formats.

The Government Documents Collection consists of well over 750,000 titles (comprising over 1 million individual items) of US Government and State of Texas documents, including books, serials, maps, and state adopted textbooks. This large collection includes items in print, electronic, and microfiche formats.

Search for Government Documents using the Government Databases or search one of the specialty databases listed below, located on the 4th floor in the Gov-Docs area.

Map Service

The documents unit offers the printing of USGS Topographic Maps. Map requests are filled within 24 hours. Requests for Map printing are taken through 9:30 p.m. Sunday - Thursday, 4:30 p.m. on Friday and 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. Assistance is also available for locating maps in hard copy. Several series of maps are housed in the collection.

TCMC & Guided Reading textbooks

Special Materials

 

Textbook & Curriculum Materials Center (TCMC)

The TCMC Collection is comprised of public school textbooks (K-12) currently in adoption by the TEA as well as Curriculum Guides on various subjects. The collection is available for check-out on an authorized basis. They are considered Special Materials. Check out period is one week and Adopted Textbooks are not available for renewal.


Scholastic Guided Reading Collection

Adjacent to TCMC is the new Scholastic Guided Reading Collection. These readers are categorized by the kind and level of challenge they offer students as they are learning to read. The readers are organized into 26 levels of difficulty from A-Z. The four areas are: Fiction, Non-Fiction, Content Area & Spanish. They can be checked out for one week at a time with a student ID at the Gov Docs. office.



Special Materials Circulation

About 95% of the materials in Documents circulate, however; about 20% of these require special permission to check out for a short period of time. If you have a question about a certain piece, feel free to ask for assistance at the documents service counter.

Documents Reserve

Documents Reserve is a collection of materials selected for their high demand and timely content. Faculty may request that certain documents be placed on Documents Reserve. These items are housed in the documents unit office and are available for in-house use only.
