What is GIS

2017 GIS  Day Map Competition

Here are the winners of the 2017 Map Competition:

  • 1st Place (Winner)  -  Eric Olson (Reimaging A Campus Map)
  • 2nd Place                -  Jason W. Bartling (Texas Bitcoin Relative Interest and Prospective BTC ATM                                        Placement) 
  • 3rd Place                 -  Mael B. Le Noc (Bangalore's Disappearing Lakes)

Judging Criteria

The maps were judged based on Design/Layout (organization & balance), Legibility & Visual Appeal (text font/size, color coordination & use of symbology), Effective communication (understandable & efficient use of techniques and data), Accuracy (grammar & spelling), and Originality (unique presentation).

Training and Workshops

Periodic workshops on GIS and related topics are organized by the GIS Services for all members of Texas State University. Please check the University’s Signup Reservation System for information and updates on up-coming workshops and training.
