Selecting a Database

Module Three: Gathering Information

General Considerations

  • Read the database description to make sure that the subject areas and date coverage are appropriate.
  • Is full-text availability a priority? Check to make sure the database has full-text.
  • General databases may be a good place to start for less specific searches or background info.
  • Choose a subject database for more specific searches.

Research guides

Subject specific research guides are useful for many reasons. One reason is core databases are listed to help you with your research process.

Database Selector

Use the database selector to find a database for your research needs. Use broad terms like “education” or “criminal justice” to find databases with relevant information to your topic.
