There are lots of ways to narrow down a topic that's too broad. Also, don't be afraid to possibly choose another topic if the one you have currently isn't working. Here's a suggested list of ways to narrow down a topic:

• limit the topic by geography
• limit by date
• focus on influential people or events
• limit to aspects of this topic
• limit by the material available
