Alkek Library Visualization Walls

The IT Division has begun the process of researching how new visualization technologies and learning spaces can play a role in nurturing research, collaboration and innovation within the Alkek Library.

The Committee will be researching other higher education case scenarios and scheduling focus group sessions from faculty and staff to determine the logistics and content for the appropriate space to be determined on the Alkek Library Second Floor.

The Technology and Educational Use

Technology overview

The Visualization walls include energy efficient flat-screen monitors configured to meet the requirements of the users and location. These visualization walls use high-powered computers combined with high-resolution screens that can be combined with interactive touch and 3d technologies.

Educational Application

  • Large audience presentation, viewing, and collaboration.
  • Information and scientific visualization.
  • Viewing advanced digital arts and media.
  • Public speaking and showcase events.

Focus Group Sessions

Sessions will be held:
Tuesday, February 4, 2014, 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. or
Wednesday February 5, 2014. 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Sessions will include:
  • A brief overview of visualization technologies.
  • Examples of current use in higher education.
  • Question/Answer and feedback session.
