Robb Kendrick was born in Spur, Texas. He studied photography at East Texas State University, now Texas A&M-Commerce. After graduating, Kendrick received a summer internship with National Geographic. Since then, Kendrick has worked for National Geographic, Life, Sports Illustrated, Audubon, and Smithsonian magazines. He also photographs advertising campaigns for such clients as Texas Tourism, Eddie Bauer and Frost Bank. He has completed fifteen stories for National Geographic in the past decade. The May 2003 issue showcased his 32-page story on Sherpas and the 50th anniversary of the summiting of Mt. Everest. As much as he loves shooting with his 35mm camera, Kendrick's true passion has become wet plate photography on tin, known as tintype, a technique used during the mid-19th century.  Each of the tintype photos that Kendrick produces is one of a kind, handmade from start to finish. His most recent wet plate project documents the working cowboy in Texas. The photos are collected in the book Revealing Character, and also comprise a touring exhibition that is being featured at eight major museums in the U.S.  Kendrick recently moved to San Miguel de Allende, a colonial town in Central Mexico. Kendrick and his wife, writer Jeannie Ralston, are the parents of two boys, who attend bilingual school in San Miguel. Currently, the Wittliff Gallery is proud to include eighty-seven of his photographs to date.
