Ángeles Torrejón was born in Mexico in 1970. She is a documentary photographer primarily concerned with social causes in Mexico. Torrejón was the director of Imagenlatina, a news agency that provided photographic images to magazines and newspapers worldwide. She frequently traveled to the state of Chiapas, Mexico,  including before and after the Zapatista Revolution in 1995 to photograph the daily life of the El Ejército Zapatista de Liberación Nacional (Zapatista National Liberation Army) and the Indian sympathizers in the area. Torrejón focuses primarily on the women and children of these groups, including their flights into the jungle when pursued by federal forces. In her images she is concerned with the human condition, with a noted passion for human rights. Torrejón has participated in group shows in Mexico and in the United States. Imágenes de la realidad (Images of Reality), her first monograph, was published in 2000. Her work has appeared in Luna córnea and in other magazines and newspapers. Torrejón lives and works in Mexico City with her husband, Marco Antonio Cruz, and children.The Wittliff Gallery is proud to own four of her images to date.
