Check Out a Laptop
Laptop computers may be checked out from central help desk on the second floor of the Alkek Library by Texas State students, faculty and staff. A user must sign an Agreement for Use of Laptop Computers and present his/her Texas State ID card at checkout. No other form of ID will be accepted.
Laptop users are expected to have basic computer and software skills. If you are not comfortable using standard hardware and software, we recommend that you visit the library’s 4th floor computer lab where assistance is available. Once you have mastered the basic skills, we invite you to use the laptop service.
Users must have an active Texas State NetID to log onto the laptop computers.
- Current Texas State students can create a new Texas State NetID or reactivate an expired Texas State NetID following the instructions from Technology Resources, or they may Visit the IT Assistance Center (ITAC) on the 2nd Floor of MCS during normal business hours, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday, with a valid Texas State ID or receipt for classes for the current semester.
- Texas State faculty and staff are issued their NetIDs at New Employee Orientation.
Regardless of the time of day the laptop is checked out, it is due back at the central help desk on the second floor no less than one (1) hour before library closing time. The overdue fine is $5.00 if returned within the first hour after it is due, and $10.00 per hour thereafter up to the value of the computer.
Laptops are available for use only in the library and may not be taken out. All laptops are equipped with CD-RW drives. They are configured to provide a connection to the campus network from WITHIN the library; they do not work with any other wireless network.
