ILL FAQs

Expand or Collapse all.
  • Interlibrary Loan is restricted to CURRENTLY enrolled students, faculty, and staff at Texas State University.  If you are not currently affiliated with the university, please contact your nearest public library for interlibrary loan services.

  • Since ILL assists researchers in obtaining copies of items that the Alkek Library does *not* own, you'll need to use these tools to determine which items are already here at the Alkek Library:

    Periodical List

    •   This is the most complete list of the Library's electronic subscriptions.
    •   It lists periodical titles (& years of coverage).
    •   Online/e-titles are linked and can be accessed from home or inside the Library.
    •   To check the availability of periodical titles in print format, please consult the library catalog.

    Library catalog
Locate book, serial, periodicals in print format, and a/v titles in the Library.

  • Normal turnaround time for documents to be received by ILL is approximately 9 to 12 days while difficult to locate items may take longer.

    • Electronic delivery:
If you selected electronic delivery in your ILLIAD account, then electronically received periodical articles are sent to your ILLIAD account. Log into ILLIAD and retrieve them online within your ILLIAD account. However, sometimes articles are NOT sent from lending libraries electronically. Thus, electronic delivery is not always possible.
    • Print based items:
Printed versions of periodical articles and books and media are picked up at the Circulation/Reserve Desk. Items that must be returned (such as books and media) should be returned to the Circulation/Reserve Desk
    • After hours:
Items can be picked up at the Circulation/Reserve Desk.
    • RRC students:
Students currently enrolled at RRC may request ILL items be delivered to the RRC Library for pick up. Students must indicate RRC as the delivery location within ILLIAD - otherwise all items are sent to the Alkek Library. Please contact RRC Library services for additional information 512-716-4700.
  • Most libraries lend materials for two weeks, and renewals may be requested -- but it is the prerogative of the lending institution, not Alkek, to grant renewals. Please request an extension several days before the material's due date.

  • A notice is sent to patrons with overdue ILL material. If the item is not returned within one week from the date of the notice, the patron's ILL privileges are suspended and a hold is placed on the patron's circulation record. Until the material is returned, or paid for, the patron is unable to check-out materials from the Alkek Library, register for classes, or obtain a transcript. The patron is responsible for all charges assesed by the lending library.  Having excessive incidences of overdue items will result in the permanent revocation of Interlibrary Loan privileges.

  • No. ILL determines which library(ies) to contact in order to borrow the items.

  • As the central check out point, the Circulation/Reserve Desk is staffed all hours Alkek is open and it is a more centralized location.  Interlibrary Loan staff work Monday through Friday from 8a.m. to 5p.m. but may be temporarily unavailable while performing work duties.

  • The Interlibrary Loan staff is available for consultation between the hours of 8am and 5pm Monday through Friday.  You can set up an appointment or ask for assistance at the Circulation/Reserve Desk while you are at the library and someone from Interlibrary Loan, if available, will meet with you.  You can always contact Interlibrary Loan directly by calling 512-245-4893.

  • Renewals are done by logging in to your ILLiad account.  Please remember that renewal requests must be done at least three (3) days before the due date.  Renewals are at the discretion of the lending library. There is only one renewal request per item allowed.

  • As material housed in the Wittliff Collections does not check out, it can requested through Interlibrary Loan.

  • We do not recommend requesting textbooks. If you do request your textbooks, please be aware that if we are able to get them, you MUST RETURN THEM BY THE DUE DATEWe do not set the due date.  It is set by the lending library.  You can request one renewal (if allowed by the lending library).

  • The Faculty Article Delivery Service (FADS) is a service offered to current faculty.  All FADS requests are submitted through your ILLiad account.

  • The Graduate Article Delivery Service (GrADS) is a service offered to current graduate students.  All GrADS requests are submitted through your ILLiad account.
