Item Checkout from the ARC
To avoid delays, please do not come to the ARC to pick up materials unless you have first put in a request through the Library Catalog. Items housed at this facility will have ARC in the catalog location description, and may require acclimation time before they can be viewed.
Most items requested for delivery to or from the Alkek Library will be available within one business day of the request submission. However, please allow for a 72-hour turnaround time due to acclimation requirements and staffing levels.
Special Collection items located at the ARC may be requested using the Request Delivery to Wittliff Reading Room button in the catalog. These items must be viewed in the Wittliff Reading Room on the seventh floor of the Alkek Library or through special arrangements for a research appointment made with The Wittliff staff.
Some University Archives items located at the ARC are designated for Room Use Only. These items may be requested for viewing by emailing UnivArchives@txstate.edu.
Know Before You Go
Due to the unique nature of the ARC, there are restrictions on how and when material can be viewed by university patrons or the general public.
Requesting material in advance (preferably 72 hours or more) is the best practice for anyone who wishes to visit the ARC. With advanced notification of your visit, ARC staff can retrieve all desired material and ensure it is acclimated and ready for viewing prior to your arrival.
Many items require time to acclimate to room temperature to avoid being damaged. Some items may require 24 to 72 hours from the time they are retrieved to the time they can be viewed.
Several of the collections housed at the ARC will need to be transferred to on-campus reading rooms before they can be viewed. Any items with these restrictions will show an indicator in the Library Catalog.
Minimum Staffing Levels
Material retrievals are suspended due to safety constraints any time staffing levels fall below the minimum for safe mechanical operation.
