Theses and Dissertations - Submission and Binding

Submission through Vireo

All theses and dissertations are submitted to the Library through Vireo, the electronic thesis and dissertation deposit platform. The Library harvests approved theses and dissertations from this system for the online repository. No additional action is required on your part to provide or pay for the library copy.

See The Graduate College Guide to Preparing and Submitting A Thesis or Dissertation for details of the preparation and submission process.

Binding of Personal and Department Copies (Optional)

Effective August 20, 2021, the Libraries will no longer offer personal binding services. Documents dropped off and paid for before August 20, 2021 will be processed with the Libraries' next shipment. Library binding shipments are done quarterly, so it will be at least 16 weeks before you receive your copies.

Many companies offer bindery services. The Libraries do not recommend specific binderies, but offer the following suggestions for your convenience.

Until August 20, 2021, students have the option of providing additional copies of their thesis/dissertation to have bound as personal copies or department copies. These can be dropped off at the Checkout Desk at the Alkek Library between the hours of 8am and 5pm, Monday - Friday. Payment must be made at the time the copies are deposited at the Checkout Desk. Payment can be made in cash, credit card, or check.

Personal copies

  • You must provide your own copies to be bound.
  • $20 processing fee per order; plus $12.50 binding fee per copy, applicable sales tax
  • Shipped via FedEx in approximately 10 weeks to address provided

Department copies

  • You must provide your own copies to be bound.
  • $12.50 binding fee per copy, plus applicable sales tax
  • No processing fee
  • Department copies will be sent through campus mail.
  • Written documentation required if department will be paying for copies (interdepartment transfer).
  • The Libraries will do binding projects for departments paying by IDT after August 20, 2021. For projects, all copies must be delivered at same time, paid by IDT, and delivered to a single address through campus mail. Projects will take 3-6 months to complete.

Manuscripts will be bound in maroon binding with gold lettering.

Collation and Formatting

It is your responsibility to ensure that copies are collated properly before submitting them to the Library. Bindery does not alter the arrangement, direction, or order of pages.

Paper Quality

You can choose your own 8 1/2 by 11 inch paper. The paper does not need to be archival quality. Print on one side only with 1 1/2 inch left margin and 1 inch margin for all others.
