YouStar Production Grant Pilot

YouStar Production Grant Pilot

The YouStar Studios team is piloting a special access program and soliciting creative pitches for episodic video series.

This competitive application and pitch process will pair selected applicants with professional mentorship for idea development and pre-production.

Projects that make it through the pre-production process and acquire sign-off by our producing team will be granted special access to our YouStar Pro Studios. This includes a multi-camera professional studio, producing resources, studio crew, and a platform to deliver their video series when the YouStar Studios launch in early 2020.

There are limitations on the scope and budget of projects we select. So try to think of projects that can be produced in a studio like: Between Two FernsBob Ross or Charlie Rose. You'll find a number of examples below.

Here are a few guidelines:

  • Projects must include studio production, even if some of the assets are collected in the field.

  • Concept is creative and simple.

  • There are opportunities for audience engagement.

  • Elaborate or expensive ideas might be too difficult to produce.

  • We welcome anyone to submit, and encourage you to think about who can help you carry out the idea and what role they would play. If you don’t have anyone on your team who has production experience we’ll work with you to find the right personnel.

A few ideas to inspire

  • Sample Concepts

    • A research science show that highlights the work of scientific research. The show will have a hosts who interviews scientists about their research work. But to keep interesting they sit on a hard slab of granite and chew jawbreakers while being interviewed. If the interview begins to sound too “hard” or esoteric, a live studio audience will throw marshmallows at the host and guest to soften them up.

    • A show where we discuss the latest gadgets and technology over while eating a delicious pizza! We'll have product demos and invite guests to shoot the breeze about all things tech.

    • An artistic series that highlights solo acts similar to an open mic at a coffee shop. We invite artists to perform their act then interview them about their artistic inspiration. Violinists, dancers, slam poets, actors, musicians, puppeteers, anyone who produces performance art are free to participate.

    • We produce a music videos for local bands and singer songwriters in the studio using creative lighting and backdrops to create cinematic visuals.

    • An improv acting show with a host and live audience who will work with the cast to come up with interesting scenarios.

    • A show where actors perform a scene from any written source. Could be a TV show, movie, graphic novel or written by the actors themselves.

    • A show where we discuss/review games and play them.
