Reinventing the Alkek Library
The Albert B. Alkek Library is undergoing some major changes. Renovations to the library began in October of 2018 and will be ongoing until early 2020. The Alkek 2020 Vision refers to an effort to transform Alkek into a 21st century research and learning environment for the Texas State University community to explore, create and discover.
The $14.3 million renovations include major modifications to the library, applying the learning commons model of library design which blends technology and information resources to facilitate research, innovation and instruction. Also included are expansions to The Wittliff Collections on the seventh floor which will add new galleries and exhibit spaces to showcase the amazing collections that trace the story of the southwest through writing, photography and music.
Construction will touch the first, second, third, fourth and seventh floors of the building. The library will remain open during the entire process and every effort is being made to maintain all services and minimize impact to library patrons.
