A Texas Cow Boy, or Fifteen Years on the Hurricane Deck of a Spanish Pony (1885), the first autobiography by an actual cowboy, was, in Will Rogers' words, the "Cowboy's Bible" – an honest, unpretentious story full of unruly horses, stampeding cattle, boisterous cowhands, bad men, and long trail drives.
