Pablo Ortiz Monasterio was born in Mexico City in 1952. He studied economics at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Mexico and photography at the London College of Printing in England. He received his masters degree in photography at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana in 1984. He is currently one of the most influential and active figures in the field of photography in Mexico.  He has edited the following book and periodical series: Mexico y Indígena, Río de luz (twenty titles) and Luna córnea (fifteen titles). He is the cofounder of the Consejo Mexicano de Fotografía and founder of the Centro de la Imagen. Ortiz Monasterio has published many photography books of his own work as well, including La última ciudad (The Last City) in 1995. He has participated in numerous exhibitions throughout the world. He currently resides in Mexico City. He is a former member of the Wittliff Gallery advisory committee and the collection is proud to include ten of his images.
